UK: Crypto based drug dealers lands in jail

The UK Police have busted three crypto-based drug dealers. These dealers sold cocaine (or a Class A drug) on the dark web, dealing with Bitcoin. The dark web was called ‘Project4‘.  This will land the dealers into a cumulative 20 plus years in prison.

The dealers, Colin McCabe, 39, Toby Woods and Robert Price, both 36 made over £1 million ($1.2 million) by selling Class A drugs. The trio used Bitcoin to hide from the police authorities. Also, they sold their drugs as far away as Australia so that they do not get caught easily. Thus, the court has sentenced 12 years of imprisonment to McCabe, the leader of the dark web gang. He admitted conspiracy to supply drugs that includes cocaine, cannabis, and ketamine. Robert Price pleaded guilty to conspiracy to supply drugs, and got imprisonment for 9 years and 9 months. However, Toby Woods will only face imprisonment of 14 months. This is after he confessed his involvement or control over the criminal property.

The Police caught the gang after finding the DNA of one of the culprits i.e McCabe on the packaging envelope of the drugs. Upon arrest, the police also found evidence such as phones with numerous addresses and packing materials. Moreover, they found 580 gms of MDMA and over a kilo of cannabis resin at Robert Price’s residence. As per the source, even Judge Francis Sheridan said Project4 was a professional and well-organized operation.

Recently, Californian crypto drug dealers who happen to be a couple were found running the dark web drug operation ring. Thus, they admitted to their illegal activities and will now forfeit their cryptocurrency riches.
