Indian Telecom regulatory body TRAI will make use of blockchain for Mobile Number Portability. Already many Indian Telcos are implementing the technology to get rid of spam calls from business organizations. This information comes from TRAI Chairman RS Sharma from his recent interview to a leading media house.
The chairman has praised how the top telecom providers of the country are making use of open source platforms to filter spam calls. These are mostly the Unsolicited Commercial Calls that business organization randomly use to reach out to the customers. Tele-carriers like JIO, Airtel, Vodafone are making use of blockchain technology from IBM, Tech Mahindra, and Tanla Solutions to implement control over UCC. This will help the users to exercise more control over their calls and messages.
According to Mr.Sharma, they have now experimented and utilized blockchain on UCC. So, they are hopeful that its other implications such as in phone number portability will also be fruitful.
India has been quite busy experimenting with blockchain technology. Recently, the Telangana state passed a bill to provide amenities to the blockchain start-ups. The region is going to become the blockchain capital of India. Also, recently the DApp Fest 2019 was held in Bengaluru. It is apparently the biggest blockchain meetup in Asia.
We can hope that India experiences much more implementations of blockchain for public welfare in the near future.
